Go ahead. Make my day. ;)
Whew! I am so glad today is over! I am officially on Spring break! Wooooo! My big, exciting plans? I'm going to start data collection for my thesis! Wooooo! Haha. I do get to go to the beach, anyway...even though it'll be chilly and there will certainly not be any sunbathing. But nevermind that.
Because I'm so looking forward to Spring, my heart pitter-patterned extra fast when I saw this dress on Modcloth tonight.... and then my poor little heart broke in a million pieces because this dress is $160.00... What?! That's just not fair. This is possibly the most perfect dress EVER and I will never get to wrap myself in all of its pastel glory. *huff*
Ooh! But in other news.....!
Wait. I'm going to save it for tomorrow because I didn't have time to do today's List this morning.... so I'll share some exciting plans tomorrow! Now I need to go check the laundry (its after 11 p.m.) because....when I got home from school at 9:30 tonight, I discovered that my dogs had apparently eaten a bunch of chocolate while I was gone today....and vomited all. over. my. room..........including in my bed.
Ewwww!
But. I came upon something in my wanderings of the Interwebs this evening that made everything (yes, even the chocolate-dog-throw-up) better:
aaaaaand, last but certainly not least!!
Yes, Thom, I'll come to your yard for a milkshake! :D

How to get out of a rut, or, how to get off of your butt and DO things!
Since around the last week of January, right when the semester started (for new readers, I'm a grad student), I have just felt...off. As in, not myself. Out-of-sorts. I have had a routine that has worked for me for years and years: wake up early, eat breakfast and drink coffee, take a shower, get ready, and go!
I am (er, I have been) a morning person - my natural rhythm, it seems, is to go to bed early - usually between 9:00 and 10:00 - and wake up early - usually around 5:00 or 5:30. I just feel better when I stick to that rhythm. But since starting grad school, my entire schedule has changed. Most of my classes are in the evening - 6:30 - 9:15 p.m. - and since my drive from school to home is 40 minutes, I don't get home until almost 10:00 some nights. Needless to say, I'm not ready to jump into bed and fall asleep then, so I stay up until midnight or so, and then there is no way I'm going to wake up at 5:00 the next morning! So I sleep later...and later... and the next thing I know, its 9:30 a.m., and I feel like I've wasted precious hours of my day. Its a vicious cycle - sleep later, stay awake later.... on and on until I've re-shaped my entire sleep/wake cycle. And it has been throwing me off! I feel tired and lethargic throughout the day. Motivation? Yeah, right! I just want to sit quietly and relax!
Time management has been another big problem for me. You see, I've always been a procrastinator. I was the girl in high school who put everything off until the last minute, then scrambled to get it done and still got an A. I've always been like that. It just works for me. I know that I can get my work done, it will be on time, and it will be done well. My "system" has always served me well - until now. Grad school is supposed to be so much more difficult than undergrad.... but for me, its actually easier. I have literally HALF as many classes - only 3 grad classes, as opposed to the 6 I would normally schedule as an undergrad) - which means I have wayyyy more down-time, and lots of time to get assignments done. So what do I do? Procrastinate! And then everything piles up, and I start feeling guilty for "wasting" my free days. My work still gets done, on time and done well, but... its the guilty feeling that bothers me.
Of course I'm NOT wasting any time...I just feel like I am because I don't do anything all that interesting on my free days.... mostly I just relax and take it easy (see above paragraph). Then I'm left with one or two days each week that require some scrambling to get everything done.... the more scrambling I do on those days, the more relaxing I want to do on my free days, and again, its a vicious cycle.
Needless to say, I desperately need to break out of these cycles! I've been trying to manage my time a little better, brainstorming up ways to kick these bad habits, and I think I've come up with some solutions. And I don't think my problem is unique to students: I'm sure that people in all stages of life probably go through the same, or similar, funks. Right?
So, here are some little steps that I'm going to be taking to try to
get out of my rut:
1) Make a list of goals for tomorrow before you go to bed.
I'm a lifelong list-a-holic. Lists make me feel more organized, and give me something concrete to shoot for during the day. Plus, I get a sick satisfaction from crossing things off of my list. ;-)
The list should be as simple as possible - not too daunting so you shy away from it, but enough that you will actually accomplish something, and, more importantly, feel like you've accomplished something.
My list for today was:
*Get up early, take a shower, and get going!
*Get my GIS lab done (its due today!)
*Work out at the gym for 1/2 hour
So that's not too bad, right? Easy goals to accomplish! I got up at 6:00, ate breakfast, typed this post (ok, so that wasn't on the list....but that's ok!), and I'm going to get my shower and go to campus soon! I did a lot of my GIS lab last night, so I've got a head-start....and I'm going to go to the gym at some point today - my gym bag is packed and ready to go!
2) Give yourself rewards!
For me, this is key. I have to feel like I'm doing something for myself or I'll start floundering. Yesterday was a really tough day for me. I felt super guilty and stressed-out for not having my lab finished yet (even though I knew I'd have time to do it today; its just, why do I put myself through that stress?), which resulted in me feeling really anxious and irritable. So what did I do? Bribed myself with some little treats to get some work done last night. After babysitting until 4:30, I went to the grocery store (necessary, not a treat ;-) and decided to stop at Starbucks nextdoor for a nice, big frappucino. I promised myself that I would enjoy my frappucino (and the benefits of its caffeine), and then would go home and churn out some work! I also treated myself to watching Lars and the Real Girl (looove that movie!) while I did my work... I haven't sat in bed with my laptop and done any work in months. I usually sit at my desk. So even though it might sound silly, watching a movie and doing work in bed really was a treat to me.

3) Remember, its the little things that count!
And I mean really little.... like, (don't laugh) STICKERS!! I use a daily planner to help me stay organized (highly recommended!), but sometimes seeing those little squares filled with things that need to get done can be pretty intimidating. Stickers make it seem so much more...friendly. :-D Yesterday, I flipped through my planner and stuck little stickers throughout.... each week when I turn the page, I'll have a sweet little surprise waiting for me, cheering me on.
What are some of the things you do to motivate yourself??
I'd love to hear!

Inspiration to CREATE!!
Happy Wednesday!
Today I woke up ready to create! I haven't done it yet, but I'm still waking up ;)
This often happens to me on Wednesdays because its my day off! Its my day to clean-house, get organized, plan ahead, and create! Oh, and do homework, too. :P
To get my creative juices flowing, here is a collection of inspiring images found around the interwebs. They're all via We Heart It, unless otherwise credited. If anyone knows who deserves the proper credit, please let me know!!
Good advice to follow today!
How adorable is that?? A felt Polaroid picture!! I'm thinking it might be
fun to make some of these with paper, too....Hmmm....
Again, with paper! I love the multi-colored raindrops...so pretty!
I don't know how Color Me Katie has eluded me until now, but Elycia shared this video on her blog yesterday, and I'm officially hooked! I haven't had time to browse (read: spend 10 hours reading) the archives, but I can tell you already, Katie is quickly becoming a muse in my mind!

This post from Campfire Chic has got me all excited! Its a month-long project of list-writing, that will end up in a cute little mini album! I'm a compulsive list-writer, so this project really appeals to me! The project has its very own blog; go and check it out!
Well, that's about it for now... Its almost 9:00 a.m. and I need to get started on some labs that are due tomorrow! Yikes! Fact: I'm the worst kind of procrastinator! But, it just works for me!
Looks like its going to be a nice, warm day today - at least 50 degrees! And tomorrow is supposed to be around 60....I'm so ready!!

Slothenly
via Weheartit
I have done nothing today.
Well, ok, I did 2 huge loads of laundry, vacuumed and steam-cleaned my carpet, and.... yeah, that's it.Some days you just need a break, you know? I have to go pick the kids up from school, and then I think I'm going to make a Target-run. I haven't been in Target in, like, 2 weeks (which is a really, really long time!)... definitely need to go to the grocery store (we're out of COFFEE) and maybe go through the car-wash....
Gotta make the most of this day, because, as I sometimes have to remind myself:
Every day counts!!
P.S. Isn't that sloth the cutest???? I kinda want to cuddle it....

My dreams are made of the sea
When I woke up this morning, I was having a dream about sea creatures.... I was looking through glass, like at an aquarium (but this was in the wild somehow) seeing all sorts of beautiful creatures... even a Megamouth shark hehe. The ocean always captures my heart, so today I give you a collection of sea-inspired things that I have found in my browsings of the interwebs....

I love the style of this tattoo... very similar to the ship tattoo I drew up for myself (that I haven't gotten yet :/ )

Gonna party like its my birthday....
...because it IS my birthday!!
I'm a whopping 26 years old today!
Does this mean I'm a real Grown-Up now??
Neverrrr!! ;-)
I don't have any big plans for today... my family is at work/school, and I have classes this afternoon and evening, so its not the best day to celebrate. I think we'll try to go out for a yummy Japanese dinner tomorrow night, perhaps. There will also be some red velvet cake involved (my favorite!)...
If I didn't have classes today, and could spend all day in the kitchen, I would make some of these yummy-looking treats:
Cupcake fondue!
Ice cream gyoza
Rainbow cupcakes!
Here are some other pretty birthday things :)
Wheeeeee!!
I definitely want a birthday tiara like this one!!
Does anyone know who made it/where it came from?
Make a wish!
Pretty washi tape!!
I would probably have this hanging year-round...
I have a semi-busy day today...got lots of business to take care of an errands to run! I have some orders from le shop to ship out (thanks!), some fun snail-mail to send, and a huuuuge pile of laundry that's calling my name rather beligerently. Most importantly, I noticed this morning that my drivers license expires tomorrow and I never got a renewal notice in the mail. I need to figure out how I can take care of that so that I'm not driving on an expired license for the next week or two!! Then its off to class, babysitting, and then a night class! Woo! Long day!

To Do!
Ugh, I am so not happy that today is Monday. I don't really have any grounds to feel that way... I only have 1 class today, at 6:30 p.m.! Silly me. Good thing Kyla made this post about living each day to the fullest!
And this print by thewheatfield is a great reminder!!
I'm going to hurry up and try to change my attitude this morning - the day is still young! I think another cup of coffee, a nice warm shower, and writing myself a to-do list (lists make me feel more focused!) will perk me up in no time. :-)
I've got plenty of fun things to do today:
1. Pack and ship some orders from my shop!
I sold two nautilus necklaces yesterday! Woo hoo!
2. Play with my new makeup!
Got it for super-cheap on clearance at JCPenney yesterday!
3. Start working on a super-fun surprise in collaboration with another great blogger!
Check back for news about that sometime soon!
and some stuff that's not really what I would call fun...
4. A teensy bit of homework
5. Grocery shopping
6. Clean out the kitty litterbox...ugh.
Have a happy, content, inspired Monday!!

Favorite post of the year....already.
Well, I might as well just stop reading blogs forever, because I have already seen the best post ever. EVER. over at Vamoose.
*All images borrowed from the Vamoose*
The mix of age-old weathered landscapes with modern fashion and handmade jewels is just..... sigh. Perfect.
I urge you to check out the Vamoose's work!

An uninspiring (Mon)day....
I don't usually mind Mondays all that much, but today was particularly blah. Its so hard to get back into the swing of things at school after having off for the past week (Thanksgiving break), and knowing that there are only 2 weeks left in the semester before finals!!
Anyway, to make up for the *meh* kind of day it was, I searched high and low for beautiful, inspiring images. Voila!
Hilda Grahnat's beautiful photography
This paint-by-number (found here)
And, finally, quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen...
I want, nay, I neeeeeed a teeny-tiny owl wearing a teeny-tiny hat. For Christmas.
Thank you.

Oh.My.God.
So, if you've never heard of the Offbeat Bride blog (I know, still obsessing over weddings, somebody stop me!), you're definitely missing out. There are so many beautiful ideas and inspirations from real 'offbeat' weddings. But today, this wedding takes the cake. I could just die.
via Offbeat Bride
I mean, come on people. They got married IN A CAVE. AT DAWN. I am soooo jealous!
The bride's dress is from Sarah Seven. I have been eyeing her shop for months, so that pretty much makes it my new favorite shop ever. And her shoes? Please, tell me where I can get those! I didn't see them on the Faryl Robin site anymore...

My Big, Fat Hypothetical Wedding
So, I'm embarassed to admit it, but my attention (well, the tiny bit I have left after schoolwork)has been almost entirely consumed by watching terrible wedding shows on t.v. like Rich Bride, Poor Bride, Say Yes to the Dress, and (my favorite) Platinum Weddings.
It's really quite ironic, because a) I am not currently engaged; and b) I have NEVER, and still don't, want a 'real' wedding. I never imagined my 'big day' as a little girl, and now on the eve of 25, I still don't. The theatrics of it all is a real turn-off to me; I would much rather go to the courthouse for a simple ceremony (without an audience!), and then go celebrate with our friends and family.
That being said, there's something very appealing about watching OTHER people freak out about what to wear, how to do their hair, etc., etc. And maybe that's just the natural tendency for girls (or guys) who like fashion/design/etc. And ever so slightly, I find myself thinking, "Oooh, that's a pretty dress", or "Oh, my hair would look cute like that", or even "Wow, I really like that bouquet". Yikes.
I maintain that I will never have a 'real' wedding, but I do want to get married. And of course, I'll have to look amazing, so here are a smattering of ideas and inspiration for my big, fat hypothetical wedding:
The Dress
I just really don't see myself wearing a traditional gown... I'm short and petite, so I feel like a gown would swallow me up. These are much more my style.

The Hair
My hair is too short for an elaborate up-do, but I really like the idea of my hair down, with a pretty clip or this little ditty:
The Jewelry
The Bouquet
I think this is the most beautiful group of flowers ever!
The Favors
I LOVE Hens & Chicks; they're cute, hard to kill, and would look adorable in all sorts of little thrifted vessels.
