Twinkle Twinkle

More glitter!

Yep, that's right - I made some glittery crowns for myself yesterday!
I'm sure you've seen similar headbands floating around the Interwebs for like $50.
I'm a broke grad student; I can't afford that (or anything else for that matter)!
So, I did it myself (DIM??)

I looooove the way they turned out - so far I've made gold, pearl-white, and silver stars
(the silver one was for my youngest sister) and a pink and gold heart one.

I think its safe to say I'm addicted to glitter :)

Ta-da!!!

Squeeeeeeal!
I have been ga-ga over glittery shoes ever since I saw these over at Modcloth.
Well, those are definitely out of my price range, but they've been haunting me for,
oh, the past year or so. I've seen plenty of DIY's floating around the web,
but I've just been too lazy to get around to making my own. But with my birthday
coming up (Feb. 3), I decided I need a pair of glittery shoes to wear!

So I went to the craft store yesterday and bought a bunch of glitter and glue, and
voila! My very own super-glittery shoes in just one evening! My room is covered in glitter;
I probably consumed a fair share of glitter, and definitely breathed a lot of glue-fumes,
but.... so totally worth it! ;-)

I wish the colors were easier to capture in a photo... they are super-duper rainbow-y colors!
I used silver, gold, pink, purple, red, blue, and green, and finished them with 2 coats of Modpodge.
I'm so pleased with the end result! I read several other bloggers' attempts at making something similar,
and I think I did a pretty good job! Some people complained that the Modpodge made the glitter
less shiny...so I used satin finish (instead of matte). They're definitely shiny - no loss of lustre!
The finish is nice and smooth... the real test will be whether the Modpodge cracks or anything, I guess.
We shall see!

The shoes I used were a pair of black Aerosoles heels that I bought in '09 when I was in Portland, OR for a conference and needed some black heels. They're really comfy, but... I can always get another pair of black heels if the occasion comes! Otherwise, I'd so much rather have a pair of glittery heels, hehe.

Project Cost:
- Shoes - free (already owned 'em)
- Glitter - $3.99 for little packets
of about 15 different colors
- Glitter Glue - $3.99
- Modpodge - $4.50
Total - $12.48

NOT BAD!! ;-)

I can't wait to wear them!!!

All that glitters....

I spent a large part of my evening playing with
G L I T T E R !!

I'm pretty sure that I inhaled glitter, not to mention fumes from the three different kinds of glue I was using.

What was I making, you ask?
Several things, actually.... but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out!
Here's a little hint in the meantime...

Ooey, gooey [zucchini] cupcakes

I took my own Friday Challenge and made some things yesterday!

First, I made these amazing, delicious, moist (hence the 'ooey gooey') zucchini cupcakes. That's right, zucchini. They.are.so.good. I used a basic recipe for zucchini bread, but I modified it so it would be more like a dessert. For one, I added cocoa powder. Mmmmm-mmmm! And the icing is caramel icing. Its perfect with the spiced cupcakes! I could eat about 30 of these, I think.

Then, I set about making these:

Pinwheel headbands! The idea came to me a few days ago (in the shower, of all places), and I just had to make one. I love how they turned out!

(Don't mind my messy hair - I spent the day at a lake-beach yesterday)

I want to make some more today.... I have a whole bunch of amazing old buttons for the centers! I just need to get some different fabric scraps. Maybe while we're out yardsaling today....

Have you taken the Friday Challenge yet?

Don't forget, the challenge ends tonight at midnight (12:00 a.m EST)! Show me what you've made and you could win the giveaway!

Blue Planet

I went to the thrift store in search of bangles and yarn today, and struck gold...at least in the yarn department. Didn't find a single bangle, but I did order a bunch on Ebay, so that's great! Now I'm just twiddling my thumbs, waiting for them to get here so I can make some awesome bracelets!
I did have 1 blank bangle left, so I picked my favorite skein of yarn that I bought today, and made this fantastic bracelet! The photos truly just don't do it justice....the colors are much prettier in real life. It looks black and green, but its actually navy, turquoise, and white. I plan on making a whole bunch more bracelets like this one - I need one for myself!

Warm Fuzzies

I have FINALLY reopened the shop!
I'm still hard at work making some more to stock the shelves, but I was so excited to have the shop open again, I couldn't wait to share.
